Autrimo looks after around sixty homes in and around Chartres. Most are in the historic centre, a few minutes' walk from the cathedral, and several look straight onto its spires. Studios for a weekend for two, family apartments with parking, country houses with a pool or a Nordic bath for groups: every home is equipped for a holiday as well as a business trip.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chartres Cathedral is one of the finest examples of Gothic art. It keeps an exceptional set of 12th and 13th century stained glass windows, famous for their Chartres blue, as well as the labyrinth drawn on the floor of the nave. Climb the north tower for the view over the town and the Beauce plain, or join a guided tour to discover the details of the carved portals.
Around the cathedral, the old town is best explored on foot: cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses and stepped alleys running down to the river. After dark, from April to early January, Chartres en Lumières lights up around twenty monuments, including the facades of the cathedral. A free trail, perfect after dinner.
Below the cathedral, the lower town runs along the Eure with its old wash houses, stone bridges and mills. It is the ideal area for a quiet stroll, on foot or by bike along the greenway that follows the river. Several of our homes are in this neighbourhood, close to the water.
There is more to Chartres than its cathedral. The Maison Picassiette, entirely covered in mosaics by Raymond Isidore, is a one-of-a-kind curiosity. The International Stained Glass Centre, set in a medieval cellar, and the Museum of Fine Arts, in the former bishop's palace, complete the visit. Just behind, the bishop's palace gardens offer one of the finest views over the lower town.
Looking for peace and space? Our country houses in Nogent-le-Phaye, Meslay-le-Vidame, Sours or Fontenay-sur-Eure are less than twenty minutes from the centre. Between the fields of the Beauce and the Eure valley, you can visit the Château de Maintenon, follow in Marcel Proust's footsteps in Illiers-Combray, or simply enjoy a pool or a Nordic bath with family and friends.
Our team is based in Chartres and prepares every home before you arrive: cleaning, bed linen and towels provided, and a welcome kit. Most homes offer self check-in, and the team can be reached 7 days a week during your stay. Chartres is one hour from Paris-Montparnasse by direct train, ideal for a weekend or a business trip.
